Periodontal Treatment
Gum disease is a very common problem, if left untreated it can cause pain and tooth loss. It is normally caused by poor oral hygiene, inadequate cleaning and flossing. This means that the bacteria in the mouth can multiply, causing plaque to form around the teeth and the gums to become inflamed. This plaque needs to be removed before the gums are damaged and the teeth become loose.
The dental hygienist will remove any plaque and tartar build-up from the teeth and roots. They will then polish the teeth and may treat them with a fluoride product. Any periodontal pockets that have formed will require a deep clean to prevent reinfection. Full-blown periodontitis may require treatment by our own expert periodontologist, David Leigh Van As.

As you enjoy the spooky festivities and sweet treats this Halloween, remember that maintaining your dental health is essential! 🍬🦷
Here are some tips to keep your smile bright and healthy this Halloween:
Choose Wisely: Opt for chocolate or soft sweets that are less likely to stick to your teeth.
Brush & Floss: After indulging in treats, don’t forget to brush your teeth and floss to remove any lingering sugar.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help wash away sugar and keep your mouth moist.
Limit Sweet Time: Try to enjoy your treats all at once instead of snacking throughout the day to reduce the time sugar stays on your teeth.

On this World Mental Health Day, it’s important to remember that your oral health and mental health are more connected than you might think.
Poor dental health can lead to self-esteem issues, anxiety, and social withdrawal, while chronic dental pain can increase stress and affect your quality of life. On the other hand, mental health conditions like depression and anxiety can make it harder to maintain good oral hygiene, potentially leading to more dental problems.
Taking care of your teeth is about more than just a bright smile—it's also about supporting your overall well-being. Remember, a healthy smile can contribute to a healthier mind. If you’re struggling with your oral health or feeling anxious about dental visits, we’re here to help. Book an appointment today on 01202 873 263.
