Veneers
Chipping or cracking a tooth is an unpleasant experience and can leave the tooth weakened. One of the best ways to repair minor damage to a tooth is with dental veneers and The Dental Centre, Ferndown offers a range of quality veneers in Dorset to our patients.
Why use veneers?
Dental veneers are used for a number of reasons. They can help to cover teeth that are chipped or broken or have become worn down by use over time. They are also used to improve gaps between each tooth so that they appear nearer to each other and improve your smile. Veneers are ideal for handling misaligned, irregularly shaped or uneven teeth where there are craters or bulges in them.
Perhaps the most common reason for them is to handle teeth that are discoloured and where teeth whitening hasn’t achieved the desired look. This can often be down to root canal treatment, from medication people have been taken or due to large resin fillings that cause the tooth to change colour.
Customised process
Applying a veneer is a customised process with each one being made as an exact fit for your tooth. Often, the dentist will start by removing a very fine layer of enamel from the tooth to allow the bonding agent to have something to work with. A computer design is used to map the tooth and to create the veneer to match every contour of the tooth perfectly.
Once the veneer is created, it can then be applied to the tooth. This is done with special bonding agents that mean the tooth will be as strong with the veneer as without it, often stronger if there were cracks or chips.
